Setting Fitness Goals -
Change your Lifestyle for the
better
There are
lots of reasons for deciding to become more fit. Getting in shape
is good for your overall health as well as for losing weight. You
may have tried to do it before and not been successful. Here are
some tips on why and how to set fitness goals.
Fitness goals means, simply put, deciding on the specifics of what
you are trying to achieve. Think of it this way. If you want to
drive somewhere, you need to know how where you are going as well
as how to get there. Fitness goals are your map for getting where
you want to be.
So, the first step is to decide exactly what you want. Are you
trying to lose a certain number of pounds or inches? Are you trying
to fit into a particular size of clothing? Or do you have a
specific fitness level in mind, such as being able to run a certain
number of miles?
Whatever it is, this is your destination. Now, you have to think
about how to break the trip up into manageable goals.
Psychologically, this is really important for helping you stay on
track. If you are trying to lose 50 pounds, it can feel like you
will never get there. If you break that into 5 pound increments,
each time you lose another 5 pounds, you will feel like you are
making progress and this will keep you going.
When you are setting your goals, make sure they are challenging but
realistic. You can start out smaller and then increase as you feel
more comfortable with what and how you are doing. Often, you will
find that once you get started, it gets easier.
